ADHD

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder. Everyones experience of ADHD is different, as it is made up of a few different clusters of symptoms, and these change from childhood to adulthood. Many people experience difficulties with impulsivity, time management, disorganization, struggling with a lack of focus or hyper focus, difficulty relaxing, low self-esteem, difficulties with emotional regulation, or difficulties with procrastinating or planning. These symptoms are not exhaustive, but are commonly associated with ADHD.

ADHD tends to not be an issue with not knowing what to do, but doing what you know. If you’ve struggled with ADHD, it is likely that you’ve been told you are lazy, unmotivated, or that it is an issue with you lacking discipline. This misunderstanding can lead people with ADHD to have a lower view of themselves when compared to other people, and confusion regarding how other people are able to effectively organize themselves to accomplish the tasks they set out to.

There are ways in which we can work together to improve the symptoms of ADHD you are experiencing. By utilizing methods developed in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and other methods we can assess your unique situation and what you struggle with, and implement tools to help you get from where you are at with your ADHD to where you are able to be.

I believe that therapy shouldn’t be something that is done to you, but that you are engaged in. I practice from a feedback informed model, meaning that I am looking for your feedback. What is working, what you enjoy, what is difficult, and if you feel that the environment is a safe place where you’re able to express yourself. Part of this therapy will be doing things outside of our sessions together, but it is important that we agree upon these goals, as your investment into the treatment plan is important to me. This is the goal, and when this is achieved it will allow us to work together to create the life you want to aim at.
